Teil von Dodecanese, Greece
Travel by ferry to Nisyros, a volcanic island in Greece’s Dodecanese, where whitewashed villages rise above the Aegean Sea. The main port at Mandraki, on the north-west coast, brings you straight to the island’s capital, with its narrow lanes and waterfront. Inland, the villages of Emporios and Nikia overlook the volcanic caldera, making them rewarding places to explore beyond the harbour. Choose your ferry crossing to Nisyros and book the journey that fits your holiday.

Ferry Travel to Nisyros
Nisyros is a volcanic island in Greece’s Dodecanese, with its main ferry arrival point at Mandraki on the north-west coast. Arriving here puts you beside the island’s main settlement, making Mandraki a practical base if you want to stay close to the port and explore the town on foot. For a stay in Pali, farther east along the north coast, allow for an onward journey from Mandraki rather than treating the two settlements as interchangeable arrival points. The inland villages of Emporios and Nikia require a separate journey from the coast, so your ferry arrival is only the first stage of reaching accommodation there. If the volcanic caldera is your main reason for visiting, leave room in your itinerary to travel inland rather than expecting to reach it on foot from the harbour.
Within the Dodecanese, Nisyros sits south of Kos and north-west of Tilos, making these useful geographical reference points for a wider island-hopping holiday. Pairing it with Kos gives you a contrast between a larger island with more extensive towns and beaches and a smaller island whose main draws include volcanic landscapes and hilltop villages. Adding Tilos shifts the emphasis towards another small island, but each additional stop means another transfer and less uninterrupted time in one place. When choosing your ferries, weigh the time available on each island against the journeys between them, especially if exploring the caldera and inland villages is a priority.
