Ferry Travel to Menorca

For a ferry journey to Menorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, choose your arrival area with your accommodation in mind: the eastern and western ends suit different stays. Mahón (Maó) is the main geographical reference point for the east, particularly if you are staying around Es Castell or Sant Lluís. Ciutadella, at the western end, is better placed for exploring the old town and staying around Cala en Bosc or Cala Blanca. Arriving at the opposite end from your accommodation adds an overland transfer, so the arrival location deserves as much attention as the crossing itself. For a stay around Es Mercadal in the island’s interior, weigh the onward journey from either end rather than assuming one arrival area will always be preferable.

Menorca can also form part of a wider Balearic holiday, with neighbouring Mallorca lying to the west. Combining the two gives you time on distinct islands, but each change of base takes time away from exploring, making fewer stops more rewarding on a short trip. Ibiza and Formentera lie farther southwest, so including them creates a more spread-out itinerary rather than a compact extension to your stay. When choosing your ferry, match the arrival area to your first base and leave enough time between separate travel stages to make the wider journey comfortable.
