Ferry Travel to Mallorca

To reach Mallorca by ferry, focus on its two main arrival ports, Palma and Port d’Alcúdia, and choose the one that best fits your stay on this island in Spain’s Balearic Islands. Palma lies on the southwest coast and is a natural starting point for the capital, the Bay of Palma and resorts around Calvià, such as Santa Ponça and Peguera. It also places you on the western side of the island for a stay around Andratx or the southern reaches of the Serra de Tramuntana. Port d’Alcúdia, on the north coast, is better placed geographically for Alcúdia, Pollença and the beaches around Playa de Muro. If you are staying near Artà or Cala Ratjada in the northeast, arriving in the north can also reduce the amount of the island you need to cross after disembarking.

Mallorca can anchor a wider Balearic Islands holiday, with Menorca to the northeast and Ibiza and Formentera to the southwest. Pairing it with Menorca gives you two neighbouring islands to explore, while adding Ibiza or Formentera shifts your journey towards the southwestern part of the archipelago. Combining islands brings more variety but also uses holiday time for additional sea journeys and transfers, so a single-island stay leaves more room for exploring the Tramuntana mountains, inland towns and different stretches of coast. When choosing your ferry, weigh the arrival port against your accommodation and any onward island plans, rather than treating every arrival in Mallorca as equally convenient.
