Ferry Travel to Poros

Poros, an island in Greece’s Saronic Islands, can be approached by sea from the Athens side through Piraeus or from Galatas on the Peloponnese mainland, just across the narrow channel. These approaches suit different journeys: Piraeus fits a stay in Athens, while Galatas makes geographical sense if you are exploring the Peloponnese. The harbour at Poros Town is the main arrival point, placing you beside the waterfront and the streets climbing towards the clock tower. It is the natural choice for a town-based stay, while accommodation around Askeli or Neorio involves an onward journey from the harbour. Choose your mainland approach around the journey you are already making, rather than looking for a separate ferry arrival point for each beach area.

Within the Saronic Islands, Poros fits a wider Greek itinerary that combines Athens, island stays and the eastern Peloponnese. Hydra and Aegina are useful destinations to consider for a multi-island holiday, but geographical proximity alone does not establish a direct ferry connection or a convenient travel sequence. Adding another island means allowing for a further transfer and change of accommodation, whereas staying longer on Poros leaves more time for its town and beaches. For a contrasting mainland extension, the ancient theatre at Epidaurus and the historic town of Nafplio are places to build into a Peloponnese journey via Galatas, with onward road travel forming part of the trip. Once you have chosen between an Athens-led itinerary and a Peloponnese approach, compare ferry options that fit that direction of travel.
