Ferry Travel to Hydra

Hydra is an island in Greece’s Saronic Islands, and its main harbour in Hydra Town is the natural arrival point for a ferry-based visit. Arriving here puts you beside the waterfront and within walking distance of the town’s narrow lanes, shops and accommodation. It also suits stays in nearby Kamini, west of the main town, while Vlychos lies farther along the same coast and means a longer onward walk. The harbour area is the simplest base if you want to minimise walking between your arrival point and accommodation, as streets climb steeply away from the waterfront. Walking is central to a stay on this largely car-free island, so the location of your accommodation matters more than the distance on a map might suggest.

For a wider journey through the Saronic Islands, nearby Poros and Spetses are geographically logical destinations to consider alongside Hydra. Poros lies towards the Saronic Gulf and the Athens side of the region, while Spetses lies farther southwest, making the order of your stops worth considering rather than treating every island as interchangeable. The nearby Peloponnese also makes a useful mainland counterpart, particularly if you want to combine island time with a longer journey through southern Greece. Each additional stop brings another transfer and a change of accommodation, so choosing fewer bases gives you more time in each destination; compare the individual ferry crossings before settling on your island-hopping sequence.
