Ferry to Vis

Part of: Croatia

Travel by ferry to Vis, one of Croatia’s central Dalmatian islands, where sheltered bays and stone-built waterfronts set the scene for a slower-paced holiday. Vis town, on the northeastern coast, is the island’s main harbour and a natural starting point for exploring its waterfront and nearby coves. Across the island, Komiža faces the western coast, making it a distinct alternative base if you prefer the atmosphere of a traditional fishing town. Choose your ferry crossing to Vis and book for your preferred travel dates.

Ferry Travel to Vis

To reach Vis, an island in Croatia’s central Dalmatian island group, plan your ferry journey around Split as the mainland gateway and Vis town as the island’s main arrival point. Vis town lies on the northeastern coast, making arrival straightforward if you are staying around its harbour or in the nearby Kut neighbourhood. For Komiža, on the western coast, allow for an onward journey across the island rather than expecting to arrive beside your accommodation. The same distinction matters for stays around the southern bays: reaching the island and reaching your final destination are separate stages. Choosing your base before booking helps you judge how much onward travel you want after the crossing.

Vis fits naturally into a wider Dalmatian holiday, with Split providing a mainland stop for time in the city or travel elsewhere along Croatia’s coast. Hvar and Brač are also part of central Dalmatia, but their proximity on a map should not be treated as proof of a direct ferry connection or a simple same-day transfer. Combining several islands brings more variety, while using fewer bases leaves more time for exploring beyond each arrival harbour and reduces days spent moving between accommodation. If nearby Biševo is part of your plans, Komiža faces that island from the western side of Vis, so weigh that location against the convenience of staying near your ferry arrival point.
