Ferry Ports in Syros

Ferry Travel to Syros

Travelling by ferry to Syros, an island in the Cyclades in Greece, brings you to Ermoupoli, its capital and main port on the east coast. This arrival point is particularly convenient for a stay in Ermoupoli, where the waterfront and central streets sit close to the harbour. Ano Syros, the historic hilltop settlement above the capital, involves an uphill journey rather than a waterfront stroll, an important distinction when choosing accommodation. For the western beach villages of Kini and Galissas, or Finikas in the southwest, allow for an onward journey across the island after disembarking. Choose your base around the stay you want: Ermoupoli for town life and architecture, or the coastal villages for more time by the beach.

Within a wider Cyclades itinerary, Syros adds an urban and cultural stop, with Ermoupoli’s neoclassical buildings contrasting with the smaller whitewashed settlements found across the island group. Tinos lies to the northeast and Mykonos to the east, while Paros and Naxos sit farther south and southeast, giving you a useful geographical framework for choosing other islands. Nearby on the map does not necessarily mean a straightforward ferry connection, so the practical trade-off is between adding another destination and keeping more uninterrupted time on each island. If you want both the capital and the beaches, allow time for both before adding another crossing to your holiday.
