Ferry to Susak

Part of: Croatia

Travel by ferry to Susak, a small, sandy island in Croatia’s Kvarner island group, where village lanes and coastal paths invite a slower pace. The harbour sits beside the lower village, putting arrivals close to the waterfront and the sandy bay. Stone steps lead uphill to the upper village, so consider the climb if you’re choosing accommodation away from the shore. Ferry Travel to Susak

You reach Susak by sea, arriving at the harbour beside the lower village on this small island in Croatia’s Lošinj archipelago, in the Kvarner Gulf. The harbour is the arrival point for both parts of the settlement, so your choice is about where to stay rather than which port to use. The lower village, known as Donje Selo, suits travellers who want a shorter walk between the ferry landing and their accommodation. The upper village, Gornje Selo, stands above it and is reached by climbing paths and steps, making the uphill approach worth considering when choosing an address. Both villages belong to the same compact island, whose sandy ground distinguishes it from many of Croatia’s predominantly rocky islands.

For a wider Croatian island journey, place Susak alongside nearby Lošinj and Unije rather than treating it as an extension of the mainland road network. Lošinj, with its main town of Mali Lošinj, offers a natural geographical focus for exploring this island group, while Unije is another separate island to consider. Combining these destinations means allowing for separate sea journeys: their proximity on a map does not make them interchangeable arrival points or guarantee a convenient onward connection. Staying longer on Susak reduces the number of transfers, while dividing your holiday between islands gives you more variety at the cost of additional travel days and accommodation changes.
