Teil von Greece
Reaching Greece’s North Aegean Islands by ferry brings you to a scattered island group of olive groves, mountain villages and distinctive coastal towns. Choose Lesbos for olive-growing landscapes and traditional villages, Chios for its medieval mastic villages, or Samos for walks through green hills. Ferry journeys from mainland Greece offer a starting point, while the distances between these islands make a focused trip to one or two more practical than an island-hopping circuit across the whole group. Explore your chosen island’s ferry routes and book a crossing that fits your holiday.

Ferry Travel to the North Aegean Islands
To reach Greece’s North Aegean Islands by ferry from the mainland, choose your first island before settling on a departure port: this widely spread group does not have one shared gateway. Piraeus, the main port serving Athens, and Kavala on the northern mainland are useful geographical reference points, with Lemnos lying much farther north than Samos or Ikaria. Lesbos suits a longer stay combining towns, olive-growing landscapes and coastal villages, while Chios offers a distinctive focus on its medieval mastic villages. Samos combines ancient sites with mountain walks, whereas Ikaria appeals to travellers who prefer village life and a less tightly packed itinerary. For a smaller-island stay, consider Agios Efstratios, Psara, Oinousses or Fourni; Lemnos offers a different balance of sandy beaches, agricultural landscapes and archaeological sites.
Island hopping here works best as a journey through neighbouring areas rather than an attempt to cover the whole group. Fourni lies between Samos and Ikaria, Oinousses sits close to Chios’s northeastern coast, and Psara lies northwest of Chios, making these useful geographical clusters to explore when shaping an itinerary. Farther north, Agios Efstratios lies south of Lemnos, while Lesbos occupies a separate position north of Chios. Proximity alone does not establish a ferry connection, so adding a small island can mean a less flexible journey, while combining the northern and southern parts of the group leaves less time for each destination. Compare crossings for your chosen island pair before fixing accommodation, and favour fewer stops if you want time to explore beyond the arrival ports.
