Ferry to Lošinj

Part of: Croatia

Travel by ferry to Lošinj, an island in Croatia’s Kvarner archipelago, where pine-covered shores meet the Adriatic. Mali Lošinj, the island’s main town, sits around a sheltered bay in the south, with the smaller harbour town of Veli Lošinj nearby on the east coast. To the north, a bridge at Osor links Lošinj with neighbouring Cres, making the two islands a natural pairing for a longer holiday. Choose a crossing that suits your journey and book your ferry tickets.

Ferry Travel to Lošinj

Reaching Lošinj, an island in Croatia’s Kvarner island group, means choosing between arriving by sea at Mali Lošinj and approaching overland through neighbouring Cres. Mali Lošinj is the most convenient arrival point for a stay in the island’s main town or nearby Veli Lošinj, both in the southern part of the island. For an approach through Cres, the ferry gateways of Porozina in the north and Merag on the eastern coast leave you with an onward road journey south. Cres and Lošinj are linked by a bridge at Osor, so this approach also suits a stay around Nerezine in northern Lošinj. If your accommodation is in the south, weigh the onward road journey against the convenience of arriving in Mali Lošinj itself.

Cres is the simplest neighbouring island to combine with your stay because the bridge lets you explore both islands without another sea crossing between them. Spending time on Cres before continuing south can make more sense than repeatedly travelling back along the same road, particularly if you want to visit Cres town and the island’s northern villages. Nearby Susak and Ilovik offer a different extension to the trip, but their separation from the road-connected Cres–Lošinj pair means adding a sea journey rather than simply driving onwards. When choosing your ferry, match the arrival point to your first overnight stop and decide whether Cres is part of the holiday or just your gateway to Lošinj.
