Travel guide

Livorno

Livorno is known for its large port, the third largest in Italy, and its fascinating connection with the sea. It is not only the starting point for the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, but also the third largest city in Tuscany after Florence and Prato. However, the city will surprise you with its rich history and unique atmosphere, which is very different from the other cities in Tuscany.

The city can easily be visited in a few hours, but of course it also invites you to stay longer. What you should not miss during this time: the Nuova Venezia quarter. Enjoy a fantastic view of the harbor from the towers of the Fortezza Vecchia. Stroll along the beautiful canals and admire the small sailing boats. Visit the beautiful Chiesa di Santa Caterina before arriving at the Fortezza Nuova. Right next to it you will find the Via Grande. This wide and important street leads from the traffic circle next to the harbor to the impressive Piazza della Repubblica. Along this stretch you will find a number of stores and restaurants, but also some important buildings and squares.

If you are a lover of fresh, local food, a visit to the Mercato Centrale is a must. Whether meat, fish, cheese, vegetables or wine – you are sure to find what you are looking for in one of the 200 stalls.

For children, we recommend a visit to the natural history museum, the Storia Naturale del Mediterraneo. Visit Annie, the 20-metre-long whale skeleton, or one of the other exhibitions – there is so much to discover!

Olbia

The port city in the north-east of Sardinia is often only used as an entry destination for Sardinia. However, it is definitely worth a visit. Whether you pull out your credit cards on the shopping street of Corso Umberto or Viale Aldo Moro or take a stroll through one of the charming, winding alleyways, linger in this city and let yourself be enchanted by its charm. Culinary lovers will get their money’s worth. They are harvested in the shallow bay of Olbia and served fresh in many restaurants. Diving and snorkeling fans can also look forward to impressive rock formations and crystal-clear water along the coast around Olbia, as well as small, fine beaches. The city will sweeten your arrival or journey home.
