Teil von Aeolian Islands, Italy
Take the ferry to Vulcano, a volcanic island in Italy’s Aeolian Islands, where dark shores and a dramatic crater set the scene for your arrival. The harbour area at Porto Levante lies in the north, close to the island’s main settlement and within easy reach of the black-sand beach at Porto Ponente. Lipari sits just across the water to the north, a neighbouring island worth considering for a wider Aeolian holiday. Explore ferry options to Vulcano and book a crossing that fits your journey.

Ferry Travel to Vulcano
Ferry travel to Vulcano brings you to Porto Levante, the main harbour on the north-eastern side of this island in Italy’s Aeolian Islands. This is the most convenient arrival point for the main village, with accommodation and places to eat clustered around the harbour area. It also suits a stay near the black-sand beach at Porto Ponente, across the narrow northern part of the island; despite its name, Porto Ponente is not the main ferry arrival point. If you choose accommodation in the inland district of Piano or near Gelso on the southern coast, allow for an onward journey from the harbour rather than expecting to arrive beside your accommodation. The distinction matters when choosing where to stay: the northern village keeps you close to your ferry, while the island’s interior and southern coast put more distance between your base and the port.
Vulcano is the southernmost of the seven main Aeolian Islands, making it a logical part of a wider journey through the archipelago and Sicily. Lipari lies immediately to the north, so pairing the two lets you contrast Vulcano’s volcanic landscape with Lipari town’s historic streets and archaeological museum without spreading your itinerary across opposite ends of the island group. Salina, farther north, adds a different setting of vineyard-covered slopes and several coastal villages, but another island also means another transfer and less time settled in one place. Choose fewer bases if you value unhurried days, or divide your stay between islands if exploring beyond each arrival harbour matters more than keeping accommodation changes to a minimum.
